Australia has some of the highest water standards in the world β€” but that doesn’t mean your shower water is free from impurities. Once water leaves the treatment plant, it travels through kilometres of ageing pipes, picking up a lot along the way.

Common contaminants found in Australian shower water include:

  • Chlorine (added for disinfection)
  • Heavy metals such as copper, aluminium, lead, iron, and manganese
  • Hard-water minerals like calcium and magnesium
  • Rust, sediment, and pipe buildup
  • Agricultural runoff in regional areas
  • Chemical by-products formed during treatment

Over time, these impurities can contribute to dryness, irritation, breakouts, scalp issues, frizz, dullness, and colour fade β€” especially if you have sensitive skin or coloured or treated hair.

This is exactly why Hydra exists: to help remove these contaminants before they reach your skin and hair.

Our skin absorbs more from our shower water than we realise, and unfiltered water often contains chlorine, metals, and impurities that disrupt the skin barrier. This can lead to dryness, irritation, breakouts, scalp issues, and brittle, lacklustre hair. Switching to cleaner water with Hydra is a simple daily step that supports healthier skin, stronger hair, and better overall wellbeing.

Every skin and hair type can benefit from Hydra, but it’s especially helpful if you’re dealing with dryness, irritation, breakouts, dandruff, scalp sensitivity, or damaged hair. Impurities in unfiltered water can make these concerns worse. Showering in cleaner water is a simple daily step toward healthier skin, stronger hair, and better overall wellbeing.

Hydra’s filtration media has been independently third-party tested in Australia to verify its chlorine-reduction performance across the full 90-day filter lifespan, even with daily use from multiple people. Our results exceed the performance benchmarks commonly associated with NSF-177 shower filtration standards.. Hydra is engineered to deliver significantly higher purification levels, giving you cleaner water and better skin and hair results from start to finish.

FIRST STEP: REMOVE THE OLD SHOWERHEAD

At Hydra, we’ve made installation a breeze for everyone. Start by ensuring your shower area is dry to prevent any slips. Next, it’s time to remove that old showerhead. Grip the face of the old showerhead with one hand and the shower pipe with the other. Turn the showerhead counterclockwise (lefty-loosey) to unscrew it. If you’re having trouble, don’t worry! We’ve included a handy Hydra wrench at the bottom of the box. Simply tighten the wrench around the nut connecting the showerhead to the pipe and turn it counterclockwise to remove the old showerhead.

SECOND STEP: INSPECT THE FILTER

Now that the old showerhead has been removed, let’s check on the Hydra lter. Designed to provide three months of clean water, the lter is nestled inside the neck of your Hydra showerhead. While we’ve already installed it for you, it’s a good idea to verify that it’s in place. Hold the neck of the showerhead with one hand and twist the face of the showerhead to the left with your other hand to unscrew it. Take a moment to conrm that the lter is there, and then reattach the face by turning it to the right (righty-tighty).

STEP THREE: SEAL IT WITH PLUMBER TAPE

To create a watertight seal and prevent any leaks, wrap the pipe thread from the wall with the plumber tape included in your Hydra package. Make sure to wrap it around the thread twice for a secure t. Next, twist your Hydra showerhead onto the pipe until it's hand-tight. For added security, use the wrench to give it an extra snug turn, ensuring everything is set and leak-free

No plumber necessary! Just follow this simple how-to guide and you’ll be able to install your Hydra shower head in no time, but if you do need assistance or have any questions, just reach out to info@thehydrafilter.com.

Yes β€” Hydra is designed to fit all standard Β½-inch shower fittings used throughout Australia and worldwide. As long as your shower arm comes from the wall or ceiling with a standard connection (which is the case in almost all modern homes), your 9-inch Hydra showerhead will install easily. No tools or professional plumbing required.

Yes β€” the Hydra filter needs to be replaced regularly to keep your water clean and your shower performing at its best. We recommend replacing the filter every 90 days with normal daily use.If you have hard water, multiple people using the same shower, or longer showers, you may prefer to change it every 60 days for optimal results. The showerhead itself lasts for years β€” only the filter needs regular replacement.

No β€” Hydra is engineered to maintain and maximise the water pressure already coming from your pipes. Our 9-inch showerhead and internal filtration design are built with a high-flow, low-restriction system, so you get clean, filtered water without sacrificing pressure.
